Biographical Info My art journey started as a child, but only as an observer. I always loved the arts, going to the theater, ballet, concerts, and museums - a lot of museums. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I tried my hand at painting. I started with art journaling, but it didn’t end there. The first time I saw an artist working with encaustic I was enthralled. The medium moves and changes as if it has a mind of its own. This unpredictability feeds my creative juices as my artwork reveals itself to me. I begin with an idea and materials, then I see where the process takes me. Often it takes me to a place I didn’t know existed. Much of my work is connected to nature. When not painting I can be found hiking in the woods with my husband and my dog. I always have my camera with me in an effort to bring back the feelings and experiences I have in nature - peace and serenity, joy and amazement. Currently I am focusing my work on incorporating my photography into my paintings. The combination of my photos of nature and animals, and my encaustic work has been the perfect marriage of my two passions. My photographs are transformed by the paint, creating something new. I am sometimes surprised by the metamorphosis I see in the final piece. I have recently retired after teaching elementary school for 29 years. I am looking forward to this chapter of my life where I will have time to enjoy my artistic journey.
