Exciting things happening this summer at ASAP!

ASAP! is geared up for an amazing summer! We just received a grant that will go towards funding a collaboration with Save Girls on F.Y.E.R. in Waterbury. We are also teaming up with Pilobolus for a free program and collaborating with Five Senses Festival in a culminating show, and to showcase our 2019 selected Young Writers. Finally, we received a second substantial grant that will go towards revamping our Summer Arts Camp through an exciting new partnership. Keep reading for more details about our arts packed summer and about how you can get in on the fun!

ASAP! is thrilled to announce a grant award from the CT Community Foundation in the amount of $2,400. Thanks to their generous contribution and the contributions of others ASAP! is kicking off the summer by teaming up with Save Girls On F.Y.E.R. out of Waterbury. This FREE week-long workshop will focus on acting, movement, and singing. Save Girls on F.Y.E.R is dedicated to serving girls and young women who live in underserved communities by encouraging them, empowering them, and providing them the tools they need to reach their full potential. The workshop will culminate in a play – written, directed, and performed by the participants. We are very grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose continued support helps make our programs possible. We can’t wait to see what these young women create!

Next are some exciting programs in collaboration with Washington Parks and Recreation, Pilobolus and Five Senses Festival. Move, Sculpt, Shake it Up! is a one-of-a-kind FREE camp where Pilobolus will lead students to explore all the possibilities of movement just the way they do in their studio. Students will also get to work with ASAP! teaching artist Jenna Robb to imagine, invent, and create amazing giant sculptures! The camp will culminate in a public show featuring student creations at the beautiful grounds of Five Senses Festival. This year we are excited to announce a second collaboration with Five Senses Festival. ASAP! has been invited to join Pilobolus and their Next Generation: Young Voices program where writers, musicians, dancers, and creatives will be showcased at the company’s newly established amphitheater on Bee Brook Rd. ASAP!’s top selected Young Writers from this past May will take center stage to perform their pieces. We invite you to join us in celebrating our Young Writers in a magical setting while getting the chance to also see other young artists embracing their chosen medium.

We are rounding off the summer by taking our Summer Arts Camp to a whole new level! A grant award in the amount of $3,600 from Northwest CT Community Foundation makes it possible for 45 Torrington students to participate in our camp. Kids ages 4-17 come from all over CT and from as far away as New York to engage in an extensive variety of arts programing including pottery, painting, circus arts, hand drumming, environmental explorations, African dance, movement, theatre, writing, music, and so much more! At ASAP! Summer Camp we unplug and connect with friends.

Please come and join us this summer as we celebrate art, nature, community, and collaboration.
