Dr. Mark Schenker AI in Literature Series: “A Closed and Common Orbit”

The Ridgefield Library is hosting a provocative series this fall entitled, AI: Ready or Not. As a part of this series, Dr. Mark Schenker of Yale College is conducting a trio of online lectures on the theme of AI in literature.

Dr. Schenker’s next lecture will occur via Zoom on Monday, Oct.16 at 7:00 PM when he discusses the book A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky ChambersPlease register for the Zoom link.

Description of A Closed and Common Orbit:   Lovelace was once merely a spaceship’s artificial intelligence. When she wakes up in a new body, following a total system shut-down and reboot, she has no memory of what came before. As Lovelace learns to negotiate the universe and discover who she is, she makes friends with Pepper, an excitable engineer, who’s determined to help her learn and grow.

Dr. Schenker’s final lecture will be on Oct. 30th when he will discuss Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Dr. Schenker recently retired as an associate dean and dean of academic affairs at Yale College. He is embarking on a new series of lectures titled “Literature Sessions with Schenker.
