Cass Gilbert: Famous Architect and Ridgefield Resident (Zoom lecture)
May 17 @ 4:00 PM - 5:15 PM
Free
Join the Ridgefield Library and popular lecturer Toni McKeen for a free online discussion about famous American architect, Cass Gilbert.
An early proponent of skyscrapers, Gilbert’s works include the Woolworth Building and the United States Supreme Court building. His public buildings in the Beaux Arts style reflect the optimistic American sense that the nation was heir to Greek democracy, Roman law, and Renaissance humanism. In 1907, Cass Gilbert purchased an early 18th-century building, known as Keeler Tavern or the Cannonball House, in Ridgefield, Connecticut, to use as a summer home for the family. Gilbert improved the house and added more buildings during the next few years. And of course, Gilbert is responsible for Ridgefield’s most famous landmark, the Cass Gilbert Fountain.
