Contemporary calligraphy: ‘The law of expectation says: what you are waiting for It enters your life. So, keep repeating to yourself: I am waiting for the best, I am happening…,’ by Rumi, 13th c. Persian poet.
I refer to my work as contemporary calligraphy. Traditional calligraphy is the art of giving form to signs and sounds in an expressive, harmonious, balanced and artistic manner. This ancient art form focuses on elegance and historical style. For centuries, Persian calligraphy served as a mirror for mystical and literary teachings. In my painting, I present a new contemporary artistic reality. By linking letters and word with images, I reconstruct the past and bring it into the present. My work is essentially text-based painting, often inspired by the themes of the ancient Persian poets, who write of basic human emotions (e.g., love, hope, joy, sadness). For this reason, my work has universal appeal. While the script embedded in my works might be in Persian (or English or Arabic), it speaks to people of all languages. It’s the story of life.
