I am a self-taught artist who started painting several years ago in my 60’s. This is only the second oil portrait I have painted. The painting holds a lot of meaning for me as it was the first time my foster grandson (3 years old) met his new grandma (my 93-year-old mom). He had called his previous foster mom Grandma, and was in deep contemplation about this grandma. He had an immediate bond with her and insisted she hold him for most of the visit. I have been inspired to do more paintings of children in foster care, especially with elderly caregivers. These two groups (foster children and the elderly) are largely unseen, and my hope is to make them more visible.
