various papers, ink, acrylic paint

Sharon Krinsky

I began making art in childhood and I’m still passionate about it, continuing to go in new directions with different materials and techniques. My focus has been on collage, but I have studied and created work in a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, bookmaking, and assemblage. For many years, I concentrated on abstraction, but I find that I’m now more interested in the faces and figures of people. I recently worked on a series of semi-representational acrylic portraits of friends and family members. My latest project is a series of ‘collage people,’ who come mainly from my imagination. They are a combination of drawing with collage and are influenced by outsider, or folk, art. I use simplified forms made out of solid and patterned papers, paint, and ink to create colorful and whimsical characters with unique personalities.
