Connecticut Poet Laureate is an Honorary position created by the General Assembly in 1985.
The poet laureate is the state’s representative poet who serves as an advocate for poetry and promotes the appreciation of and participation in poetry and literary arts activities.
They serve a three (3) term (August 1, 2018 through July 31, 2021) and will receive an annual stipend of $2,500.
A poet must be nominated first and deemed eligible.
A poet needs to be nominated by a Connecticut resident. A poet may not self-nominate and no award will be given posthumously.
COA will contact nominated poets with an invitation to submit an application for consideration and review.
