Third-Space Danbury Project
Transforming public spaces into vibrant hubs for connection, creativity, and community.
Third-Space Danbury is a city-wide initiative to reimagine underutilized public areas as inclusive, welcoming environments that foster trust, creativity, and shared experiences. These spaces are co-designed with residents to reflect the unique character and needs of Danbury’s neighborhoods.
Building Belonging Through Design
Third Spaces are rooted in the idea of creating low-pressure, communal areas where people from all walks of life can connect. In a fast-paced world, these spaces offer a vital pause—encouraging informal interactions, cultural exchange, and a sense of belonging.
Community-Driven, Artist-Led
This initiative began with a SHIFT workshop series hosted by the Cultural Alliance, where local leaders and creatives collaborated to design arts-based projects that combat isolation and spark community spirit. From murals to musical sculptures, every element reflects the voices and visions of Danbury residents.
A Vision for City-Wide Impact
Starting in the Fifth Ward and expanding across Danbury, Third Spaces are being imagined for locations like Richter House, Hatters Park, and Tarrywile Mansion. These spaces will support walking communities, arts education, youth engagement, and cultural celebrations, enhancing quality of life and civic pride.
