Pulitzer Center Fighting Words Poetry Contest 2022

Pulitzer Center | May 4, 2022

The Pulitzer Center is a nonprofit journalism and education organization. The Pulitzer Center’s K–12 education programs and resources cultivate a more curious, informed, empathetic, and engaged public by connecting teachers and students with underreported global news stories and the journalists who cover them.

We’ve just launched our 2022 Fighting Words poetry contest. Students are invited to enter a poem that includes lines from one of our reporting projects and can win cash prizes up to $300, publication on the Pulitzer Center website, and performance opportunities. The deadline is Sunday, May 15, 2022.

Between now and May 15, we are facilitating a free virtual workshop that prepares students to craft successful entries. This announcement has complete contest guidelines, directions to request a workshop, materials for educators who would like to facilitate workshops themselves, and a downloadable / printable version that students can use to complete the project independently. Last year’s winning poems can be found here. We also have contest guidelines and materials available in Spanish.
