WCSU’s Production of “Marat/Sade” Opens April 21

Western Connecticut State University’s Department of Art will showcase original art created by WCSU Visual Arts students at the 2023 Senior Portfolio Exhibition, a free public exhibit from April 20 – May 7. The art will be on view in The Gallery at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury during gallery hours from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m.

An Opening Reception is scheduled for Thursday, April 20, at The Gallery from 6 – 8 p.m. The reception is also free and open to the public, but registration is required at wcsuvpac.eventbrite.com. The Senior Portfolio Exhibition serves as a capstone experience for students pursuing a B.A. in Art in one of four areas of concentration: graphic design, illustration, photography and studio arts (painting). The following are the 2023 B.A. in Art candidates who will show selected portfolio works:

Graphic Design: Angel Almonte, Danbury; Matt Taylor, Bethel; Kyle Estanqueiro, Danbury; Paige Galanis, Sandy Hook; Jillian Mirabal, Putnam Valley, New York; Anthony Tassa, Mahopac, New York; and Lauren Torre, New Milford.

Illustration: Sarah Moffett, East Haven; Kathryn Stimpfl, New Milford; Liam Torlish, Carmel, New York; Ryein Troiano, Danbury; and Chengyu Zhou, Bethel.

WCSU’s Department of Art is part of the School of Visual and Performing Arts, along with Music and Theatre. Located in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus, the department hosts studios for Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, Illustration and Photography for both undergraduate and graduate programs, and has its own art gallery. Through the Gallery the WCSU Department of Art is committed to providing students and residents of Danbury and surrounding communities an accessible cultural resource that exhibits teaching faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and professional local and regional artists. The Gallery is used as a teaching tool to enhance the educational experiences of WCSU students and provides unique opportunities for students to participate in the behind-the-scenes gallery operations while working alongside accomplished artists.
