“Unheard Voices” Theatrical Event & Talkback
June 19 @ 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Free
Join us at the Ridgefield Library on Sunday, June 19th at 4:00pm for this very special free theatrical event commemorating the anniversary of the end of Slavery and celebrating Juneteenth.
Unheard Voices, a monologue play with music and drumming, brings to life a moment in time that might have been and gives voice to those African descended individuals who lived, loved, laughed, and endured on the streets of 17th- and 18th-century NYC. It will run one hour, followed by a talkback.
The American Slavery Project commissioned 17 African American writers to examine the 419 graves of the anonymous men, women and children who lived in colonial New York and are buried at the African Burial Ground. The writers imagined their lives. These are their voices.
This event is co-sponsored by the Michael Chekhov Theater Festival.
