The series explores concepts of man versus nature, life’s transitions, and connectivity between all living things. It’s known that matter is neither created nor destroyed. Where does that initial spark come from? Life’s energy is ever present—but is it reused and recycled or is it plucked and transported from one space to another? The ebb and flow of the world is as if nature has a conscience—like it gets angry and destroys, but then feels bad and regenerates. Sunny days and blooming flowers are mother nature’s gift.
Annette’s artistic style borders between realistic and expressionistic. There is a delicate balance—smooth transitions in order to depict form paired with expressive marks and textural surfaces that retain the artist’s energy. Most works are oil paintings built from layers to create depth in color. They have almost an opalescent quality and alter their presence depending on the light
