I photographed this Bollywood Dancer in her studio environment. I used ambient window light and studio strobes. I directed her through the photography session. She was an extraordinary personality who designed her own East Indian clothing and videotaped her performances for her website.

As a native New Yorker, it became a hobby to watch people. My father was a portrait artist and that is how I, as a photographer, came to love studying faces. I appreciate life’s diversity and it was important to include a portrait of an East Indian Bollywood woman and a nude of a family member who had surgery on her beautiful torso. The nude was quite challenging as I was often asked by my mostly male photo collective why women photographers don’t photograph nudes? It was time to challenge that thought and produce through my visual process.
