Antonia Schachter | August 15, 2019

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut will honor four awardees at the 13th annual Business Supports the Arts Awards Breakfast this year.

  • The Business Supports the Arts Award will go to Litchfield Distillery. Owners Jack and David Baker have incorporated philanthropy into their business model, supporting the Cultural Alliance and countless other nonprofits in the region.

  • Educator Anthony DePoto, an actor, entrepreneur and instructor of Theatre Arts at Western Connecticut State University, will receive the Heart of the Arts Award for his work with young people over the past several years.

  • The Village Center for the Arts in New Milford will be honored with the Arts Impact Life Award for the organization’s longtime community offerings that center on education for children and adults.

  • The Cultural Alliance will give the Arts in the Community Award to Gary Goldring, a businessman and founder of The Bank Street Group, who has been a leader in restoring downtown New Milford, particularly the Bank Street Theater, which brings first-run and arts films to audiences.

The Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut acts as a Chamber of Commerce in many ways, but for creative communities, working hard on behalf of creative entrepreneurs and art-and-cultural organizations. We are the “go-to” arts organization for the Department of Economic and Community Development in Western Connecticut; we also provide a path for local business leaders to gain access to the creative community and advocate to ensure that the arts are a priority for funding and economic development.

The Cultural Alliance can help businesses leverage the arts community, promote the issues that they care about to support community, and meet their bottom line. In providing resources to schools in the region, we can expand the future of arts education. Finally, in conducting research to better understand the arts’ impact, we can continue to refine how we may best serve our economy and quality of life.

You can reserve your seats at the breakfast, which will be held on Oct 10 at the Amber Room Colonnade, 1 Stacey Road, Danbury. For information, contact the Cultural Alliance at or (203) 798-0760. For seating: ; For Table reservations:
