Integrating the arts into the community reflects the people they serve and reflects their inclusive work culture.
Connecticut Institute for Communities (CIFC) is partnering with CAWCT in honor of National Health Center Week, which recognizes the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers, and raises awareness of the essential care, education, and housing they provide.
CIFC is an invaluable resource, supporting the healthcare needs of low-income children in greater Danbury, while also offering residency programs for graduate medical education. The leadership and health center team at CIFC is as comprehensive as their work, which is evident in their commitment to inclusivity and empathy.
Dedan Davenport, LMSW and Artist
Showing signs of being a budding artist early in life, at age four, Dedan was creating expansive designs on the walls of his home (inspiring parental replacement with paper). Over the years, Dedan experimented with a variety of art forms before focusing on graffiti, which later led to collaborative art projects with community organizations and businesses, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt University.
Although experienced in a wide range of art forms from still art to animation, graffiti has remained Dedan’s core specialty to which he always returns and finds most personally gratifying and a therapeutic form of self-expression. The therapeutic aspect combined with his focus on mindfulness led Dedan to align art with social work and obtain a Master of Social Work degree at Fordham University—a natural progression that paired well with his long-standing desire to help those in need and where he continues to make a meaningful contribution.
