Brookfield Craft Center Preparing for Students, Faculty, and Visitors

A Note from the Executive Director

June 12, 2020

I hope this finds you and your family safe and healthy. Like you, we at Brookfield Craft Center continue to work through the challenges presented by the COVID-19 virus. I would like to share with you what we have accomplished and what we plan to do to make sure our campus is a safe place for all.

As you may know for the past three months, we loaned our 3-D printer which was dedicated to producing face masks for healthcare workers. Our shop has been offering artists’ work for sale online with a portion of the proceeds going to the Brookfield Food Pantry. Additionally, we have also been offering online classes in a variety of media; block printing, photography, painting, video, even clay and more.

While these efforts continue, we are focused on plans for how best to welcome students, faculty, and others back to our campus and our shop. Toward that end, we have installed plastic shielding where needed in our shop and studios and acquired appropriate sanitizing cleaners and wipes and other Personal Protective Equipment. Our number one priority is the safety of all who come to our facility. A brief explanation of our guidelines is below, and this is a link to a more detailed explaination.

While we are taking every precaution to ensure a safe environment by cleaning/sanitizing our facilities and tools, limiting our class sizes to four or fewer students, and staggering hours, we recognize that not everyone is quite ready to venture out. So, we will continue to offer courses online. Our goal being to offer engaging and creative opportunities anyway we can to our entire community.

Open Studio
We will continue to offer our students and members the opportunity to work independently on their projects in some of our studios. However, to ensure your safety we will have to limit the numbers who come to participate at any one session. For this reason, for the time being, we can no longer run sessions using the drop in model. Instead we are requiring anyone who wants to participate in a scheduled open studio to contact our registrar at least 48 hours in advance. Reservations for spots in a session will be on a first come first serve basis. Sessions will still be purchased online. Unused open studio time purchased prior to our COVID shutdown will be noted and available for your use. The balance of sessions will be credited once the reservation is confirmed.

Gallery / Shop:
Our shop, where you can purchase unique handcrafted artworks for gifts or for your home, will open officially on June 17. Shop hours are:
Tuesday – Friday noon to 5:00pm,
Saturday 11:00 – 5:00pm
Sunday noon – 4:00pm.

For your safety and that of our staff, masks are required, and we are allowing only four shoppers at any one time. Please use the hand sanitizer located to your right as you enter. We therefore encourage you to call for an appointment. (203) 775-4526.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
