“Waters Calming Peace” – Watercolors by Charlene Leichter @ The Sherman LibraryMarch 29 – May 8, 2024Opening Reception Friday, March 29, 2024 6 – 8pm The Sherman Library1 Sherman CenterPO Box 40Sherman, Ct 06784860-354-2455www.ShermanLibrary.orgOpen Tues, Wed & Friday 11 – 6, Thursday 11-7, Sat 10-4The Sherman Library is pleased to announce the next art show: ”Waters Calming Peace” – Watercolors by Charlene Leichter. With water as the focal point, Leichter’s paintings capture nature’s colors, moods and beauty. They give a sense of calm, of peace. The opening reception will be Friday March 29, 2024 from 6-8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from March 29 – May 8, 2024 both at the Library and on their website, www.ShermanLibrary.org.“When I look at a finished painting, I want to feel peace and comfort, then I know it’s ready to provide the same to others. I want my work to make someone feel warmth, peace and happiness in their heart.” Says Leichter.A native New Yorker, Leichter now resides in Sherman CT. She has a BA in Economics from Stony Brook and a career in Information Technology as a developer and database administrator. Currently she is working part time, being fully retired at the end of the year. In 2022, post-surgery, needing to find a diversion from the pain and discomfort, she turned to her past love of watercolor painting. Just as she had taught herself database and IT technology, she began to teach herself how to paint. Not having done any drawing or painting since high school, she started watching YouTube videos of drawing, perspective and watercolor tutorials for hours on end. Luckily, in her house there were art supplies in storage containers that she opened and dusted off. Followed by practice, practice, practice! Trying and testing different techniques and eventually finding her own style. Through this came a love of landscapes, especially with water as a focal point. No surprise here, as she grew up on Long Island’s great South Bay and was no stranger to the ways of water and how peaceful yet powerful it can be. What a wonderful way to celebrate her first solo show by paying tribute to water and its calming and peaceful ways. For more information about this show and the Sherman Library, visit: www.shermanlibrary.org.

Mother’s Day gifts and local art is a focus at the seventh annual Spring Arts and Fine Crafts Show at the historic Merwinsville Hotel in Gaylordsville, CT. The organization will offer six days to shop over two weekends before Mother’s Day. The show will again be on two weekends, April 26-28 and May 3-5, for three days each weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Over 90 local artists and artisans will have work on display at the show and all is for sale. A portion of all sales benefit the Merwinsville Hotel Restoration, a 100 percent volunteer nonprofit that has worked to restore the building for over 50 years. The 181-year-old building needs constant maintenance and renovation.
The show features artwork in glass, photography, jewelry, sculpture, fiber, woodwork, pottery and paintings in watercolors, oil and acrylic. Locally grown plants are also available for sale from Meadowbrook Garden in New Milford and The Village Farm Shop and Greenhouse in Gaylordsville.
One of the features of the spring show is live artist demonstrations and all six days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will have artists on hand. Past years have included spinners, weavers, jewelry making, wood carvers and many more.
There is a suggested $2 donation per person for the Spring Show. Children under 10 are free. Members are admitted free and those at the sponsor level and above will receive a discount on art purchased at one of the three annual shows.
The Merwinsville Hotel is a national historic landmark located at 1 Browns Forge Road in Gaylordsville, CT, only 15 minutes from Kent, Sherman, New Milford and the Harlem Valley/Wingdale Railroad Station. For further information, call 860-350-4443 or visit www.merwinsvillehotel.org

From the author of Moon Over Buffalo and Lend Me A Tenor, Ken Ludwig’s Shakespeare In Hollywood is a celebration of stage and screen! It is directed by Jane Farnol with auditions Feb. 18 & 19 at the theatre.
The story: It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized on the Warner Bros. Hollywood set of Max Reinhardt’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Instantly smitten by the glitz and glamour of show biz, the two are ushered onto the silver screen to play (who else?) themselves. With a little help from a feisty flower, blonde bombshells, movie moguls, and arrogant “asses” are tossed into loopy love triangles, with raucous results. The mischievous magic of moviedom sparkles in this hilarious comic romp.
Shows are April 5 - 27 on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM with matinees on Sunday at 2PM. There will be a free preview for area senior citizens on Thursday, April 4 at 8 PM.
Brookfield Theatre's 2024 Season is made possible with the support of the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of Arts; Support has also been provided to Brookield Theatre from CT Humanities (CTH), with funding provided by the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development/Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) from the Connecticut State Legislature; Along with the generous donations of our many supporters and subscribers.

The Ridgefield Theater Barn is thrilled to be bringing Whose Barn is it Anyway? back to their stage to celebrate Spring with some laughter. Friday, April 26th at 8pm, Matt Austin will host an evening of unpredictable fun. Seating is cabaret-style, and the audience is invited to bring food and drinks (concessions are also available in the lobby). Doors open one hour prior to curtain.
This spontaneous evening of skits and games, based on suggestions from the audience, has no script and no plot. Performers are thrust into situations where they must use their imagination and comedic instincts, and what evolves is a combination of stand-up comedy and game show—with hilarious results. In the unpredictable world of improvisational comedy, anything can happen…and usually does. But what makes improv so unique and engaging, is that the audience participates in the mayhem.
So be prepared to enter a wacky world of anything-goes folly, because the only thing that is predictable is an evening of laughs for everyone. Due to the spontaneous nature of improvisation, performances may contain adult language and themes that may not be suitable for children. Parental discretion is advised. The Ridgefield Theater Barn is located at 37 Halpin Lane. Tickets are $15 and reservations can be made at

The Sherman Library is pleased to announce the next art show: ”Waters Calming Peace” – Watercolors by Charlene Leichter. With water as the focal point, Leichter’s paintings capture nature’s colors, moods and beauty. They give a sense of calm, of peace. The opening reception will be Friday March 29, 2024 from 6-8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from March 29 – May 8, 2024 both at the Library and on their website, [www.ShermanLibrary.org](http://www.shermanlibrary.org).
“When I look at a finished painting, I want to feel peace and comfort, then I know it’s ready to provide the same to others. I want my work to make someone feel warmth, peace and happiness in their heart.” Says Leichter.
A native New Yorker, Leichter now resides in Sherman CT.
